GameFindr ("we", "us") is a free video game guessing game. We've built it to collect as little about you as possible: there are no accounts, no adverts and no analytics or tracking cookies. This page explains what little information is involved and what happens to it.
Stored on your own device
Your browser's local storage keeps your game progress, your stats and streaks, the leaderboards for custom challenges you've played, and your Heads Up player name and ID. This stays on your device and is not sent to us, except for the Heads Up details described below. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.
Heads Up 1v1 matches
To run a live match, our server stores the match code, a random player ID created by your browser, the display name you choose, your guesses and hints, and the times they were made. Your opponent sees your display name and your guesses once each round is revealed. Match records are deleted automatically after about 24 hours. Please don't use your real full name or anything that identifies you as your display name.
Custom challenges
The game and any hint you add to a challenge are written into the link itself. We don't store them on our server. Anyone you share the link with can see them.
Server logs
Like most websites, our server and hosting may record technical details about requests, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use these only to keep the site running, secure and free of abuse, and we keep them only for as long as that requires.
Other services the site uses
When you use GameFindr, your browser also connects directly to these services, which will receive your IP address and may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies:
- IGDB (images.igdb.com), for game cover art and logos.
- YouTube, for the trailer audio hint and end-of-game trailers.
- Google Fonts, for the site's fonts.
- placehold.co, for placeholder images when a game has no cover.
Why we use this information
We process the Heads Up details because you've asked us to run a match, and server logs because we have a legitimate interest in keeping the site working and secure. We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, or object to how we use it. Email us at [email protected]. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
GameFindr doesn't ask for any personal information to play. If you're a parent and think your child has shared personal information with us, contact us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
